And Life Goes On: 52 week Challenge

After taking a couple weeks away from photography, I want to start up a new project.  This one will be a 52 week project where each week, there will be a new subject to take pictures of.  This time, I want to reach out and see if anyone else wants to join me on this year long adventure.  The point of this is to develop your photography skills / start them while also just having fun.  Comparing your photos to others on the same subject and sharing your ideas will increase your skills in photography.

I will be starting this on June 10th 2012 - June 15th 2013 (I think that is 52 weeks)

What you need:
  • Any camera!  You just need to be able to upload your pictures every week.  A DSLR would be best as some of these subjects will be challenging without one.  Camera phones might be hard to use too.
  • Time and inspiration:  This will take some time out of your life, but not as much as doing a 365 challenge.  Looking online on sites such as http://digital-photography-school.com/ and  http://pinterest.com/ for inspiration.  There are tons of sites to look at for ideas.
Optional:
  • Photo editing software such as PhotoShop CS5 or Elements.  There is also lightroom and online sites.  If you are going to do photography of any kind, it is worth finding a way to edit your photos.
  • Tri-pod: this will help with some of the subjects such as night time or movement.

What to do:
  • Below this section will be a list of subjects.  Each week, you will choose one subject from this list (doesn't have to be in order), and photograph it.  You can interpret these as you would like, but can also ask if you don't know how to go about doing something (remember, this is a learning experience also!).  Some of these subjects might overlap each other so you will be using like techniques for different subjects.
  • Upload your pictures each week onto a blog site such as blog spot, and label which subject you did .  You can also right about how you went about it, what inspired you, tips and tricks you used, etc.  Make this fun and enjoyable!
  • Don't forget to check off each subject each week!  No repeats.  Remember to plan out ahead of which subject you are doing when.  Some will be harder to do than others due to locations and availability of the subject.
List of Subjects:
  1. Special event (wedding, birthday, etc.)
  2. Portrait shots (this will be with a model)
  3. Candid portrait shots (this will be on people who don't know that you are taking pictures of them.  Be sneaky, but also be safe.  Snap that picture then walk away, no words!  If they ask you to delete it, then do it politely.  Usually people don't mind, especially in the city).
  4. Snow
  5. Shallow Depth of Field / Bokeh shots
  6. High Dynamic Range photography
  7. Falling (falling objects)
  8. Movement
  9. Night time
  10. Astronomy
  11. Smiles
  12. Eyes
  13. Animals
  14. Large bodies of water (ocean, lake, etc.)
  15. Dream like (editing software would help)
  16. Light and Shadow

  18. Summer
  19. Fall

  28. Weather
  29. Flowers/Plants
  30. Food (learn to cook too!  Great skill to have ^_^)
  31. Cars
  32. Signs
  33. Reflections
  34. Friends
  35. Architecture and Building shots
  36. Landscapes
  37. Frozen in Time
  38. Sports/Action

  40. Somewhere you have never been before.  It can be in your town, but somewhere you have never gone before or seen.
  41. Tiltshift / model view
  42. Something that describes who you are, kinda like a bio
  43. Street Photography
  44. - 52.  Free style.  Create your own subjects for each of these weeks.  Go crazy with what ever intrests you.

If you would like to join this project, write on this note and post a link onto the site you are going to use so everyone can look at your work!
I would encourage anyone who has interest in photography to try this out.  If you don't like it, you can stop.

Remember, have fun, ask questions to anyone who joins if you have any, and bring your camera everywhere!!

Update
To make this easier for some, you can take pictures ahead of time, but only post one subject a week.  So if you go to NYC and photograph people and the city, you can use both for two weeks.  Just don't double post pictures.
